Moving Along . . . .

This gal got a new job in a new school.  I’ll be working as a literacy coach next year, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.  Except for leaving the little people I’ve grown to love and teaching friends behind.  That part is super hard.

The past six years have been full of changes for me.

I’m NOT a changes kind of gal, but I ended up loving where I landed and learned something in each of those changes that helped me grow professionally and personally.  Some of the changes that I didn’t want at the moment prepared me for this change that I am so delighted about.  God is pretty sneaky like that sometimes.

I thought I’d share some of the things I’m excited about at my new school.  They’re super awesome, so don’t unfollow me in a rash action of hatred.
Jeans.  Jeans, jeans, and jeans.  When I interviewed, the director was wearing jeans.  Not raggedy, I need more milk and it’s 9:30 at night jeans.  But cute, sassy, put together jeans.  These are my people.

Jesus.  I spent eight years at a parochial school and am delighted to return to this world.  Take everything you love about teaching, subtract testing mania, and add in talking with kids about who God wants us to be, how we are called to serve, and how much Jesus loves them.  Jeans and Jesus together are incredible.

It’s part-time (I really wish this started with a J.)  I know.  Jeans, Jesus, and part time?  This is unfair.  But it’s awesome.  And now that I have one kiddo that has to be at school at 6:45 every other day (no bus for that!) and another whose bus doesn't come until 8:25 and a husband that says things like, "I forgot to tell you I need to go out of town the next three days," this is everything.

A brand new building.  Is this a reason to get a new job?  No.  But it is a super nice bonus.  A year ago, the school moved into a brand new building, and it is just perfect and darling and not too much and not too little and just right.  I feel like Goldilocks.  Plus, it’s across the street from Whole Foods and Starbucks.  For real.

This job is everything I love rolled into one.  I love working with kids and teachers.  This past year taught me how much I love working with small groups and one on one with kiddos.  I love talking to teachers about teaching, reading about teaching, learning more about teaching, you get the idea.  I couldn’t be more excited to make this move.

Anyone else making a change this year?  Excited, nervous, all of the above?
