Get Connected

Hi everyone!  Thanks for coming back for Week 3 of my summer blogging series.  Missed Weeks 1 & 2?  Catch up here and here.

One of the best things about blogging is connecting with other bloggers.  Getting connected takes time and needs to happen authentically, but there's one thing you're not doing that can be shutting it down.

Are you a . . . .
Cue the sad violin music.

So here's the thing, when someone comments on your blog, the comment pops up in your email.  Being able to reply to this quickly through email is important.  Blogs are public for all the world to see.  It's not the place for us to have a conversation.  That's why you mainly get a "Thanks for stopping by!" generic comment from bloggers.

While replying to comments through emails, it's much more personal.  I've gotten connected to other bloggers and built friendships.  It's nice to have that.  Ever try talking to your husband about blogging?  Um, yeah.  Bloggy friends are better for that.

So, how do you ditch the no reply blogger life?  You can watch this tutorial (it's a quick one at under two minutes):

Or follow these steps:

**A note on Step #1.  This is only true for people who have never set up their blogger profile with an email address.  If you previously got rid of your no reply bloggerness, then you may see the GooglePlus profile there.

  2. Okay, the first step to solving your problem is to admit that you have one. I am in no reply Blogger. But that is all going to change now! These weekly posts have been so helpful to me. I have already used a few of your tips. Please keep them coming!-Lisa

  3. I have been blogging a couple of years, but I know I have a lot to learn. I am going to go back and read your other posts to see if I can learn something new. I have a question. When I receive emails with replies to my comments, those aren't the same replies that are showing up on the blog post? I just assumed it was. So I need to do something different to email my replies? OK, I'm showing my blogging ignorance now, haha, but I guess that is how we learn, right? Thanks!

  8. I'm an infrequent replier! But that is changing. I had no idea I could change my profile to show one of my blogs. So I made the change for the blog that I've used the longest. Thanks!!!

  13. Thanks for an updated tutorial! It seems that at least half of the people that comment on my blog are no-reply. Makes it really hard to answer their questions! And I agree with Alison, now everyone needs to go take off the captcha!

  22. Okay, I have a question…
I am not a no-reply blogger but some of my most recent comments show up as no reply when I have clicked that little box down in the right that says “notify me.” Now I get the email with my comment but it shows me as “no reply,” However, if you click on my name you get to my profile and the “Email me” link works correctly. Do you happen to have a fix for this? It only happens for some of the comments I have left “notify me” clicked on. Thanks!
